Banyan Tree La Herradura - Almuñecar

Spain

Sleeper Magazine July / August 2011

Located in Almuñecar, in the south of Spain, La Herradura Resort is set to be the first Banyan Tree Angsana Hotel in Europe and aims to be the first seven-star hotel in Spain. It is being designed by architects Woods Bagot.

Drawing on the natural landscape and features of the setting, the hotel sits at the edge of a cliff providing magnificent 180-degree views and the advantage of the beach just a stone’s throw away.

“The views offer a dramatic guest experience from the first arrival point until the moment they are in their bedroom,” says design leader Rob Steul. “The design is in keeping with the culture and history of this part of Southern Spain, and we are creating an experience where guests can connect with nature. The cluster apartment design will minimise the visual impact on the land sitting along the natural contour lines.”
“Garden paths will guide guests to the all-day-dining restaurant and pool facilities; with sun decks cascading down to a bridge that links it to the lower part of the site.”

An inclinator located at the north edge of the plot will also carry guests and resident owners to the beach, which is only 100 metres down, ensuring panoramic views for this beach resort development.
With an estimated cost of 230 million Euros, La Herradura will feature 180 rooms and 150 residences with private terrace pools and breathtaking views. A range of facilities will be available, including a speciality restaurant, destination spa, ballroom and meeting rooms for corporate events.

The project is due for completion in early 2014.
