IHG tops out Olympic hotels in Stratford
24 June 2011 09:14:59 GMT
Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites London Stratford City held a topping out ceremony to mark the completion of the steel structure for two hotels on track to open ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Holiday Inn is the official hotel provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Holiday Inn London Stratford City has 188 rooms.
Staybridge Suites London Stratford City is an extended stay hotel that bridges the gap between regular hotels and serviced apartments, purpose built for guests that usually stay from a week up to a few months. The 162 suite hotel is above the Holiday Inn on the 11th floor. The reception is staffed 24 hours a day and overlooks the Olympic Park. Unlike serviced apartments, it also offers a 24 hour convenience store and daily housekeeping.
As well as having spectacular views of the Olympic Park, both hotels are located in the heart of the Westfield Stratford City development. This is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe, with 1.9 million square feet of retail and leisure, 1.1 million square feet of offices plus homes and community facilities. The 130,000 square foot Stratford Place which is the first office development to be built and will open prior to the Olympic Games is located just minutes away from the hotels.
The hotels are a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Park and are accessible via tube, rail and car. They are minutes away from the newly refurbished Stratford Regional Station which has underground links into the centre of London and is close to Canary Wharf and City Airport. This makes them ideally located for business travellers and leisure travellers alike.
Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites belong to the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) family of brands. The hotels will be operated by a Patron Capital and Cycas Hospitality partnership, under a franchise agreement with IHG. Patron Capital is a pan-European institutional investor focused on European asset-backed investments. The hotels will be managed by Cycas Hospitality BV, part of the joint venture ownership of ES Properties. Cycas Hospitality is also part of the ownership group of Staybridge Suites Liverpool.
Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson, IHG’s acting president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Holiday Inn London Stratford City has cleared its final hurdle before opening to guests across the world for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
“This hotel is particularly important as it will place Holiday Inn and our guests at the heart of this momentous sporting event. Looking forward, the hotels are part of the regeneration of east London, allowing Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites to be part of the Games’ legacy.”
John Wagner, a director of Cycas Hospitality BV said: “These two new hotels are situated right in the middle of one of London’s most important developments. They will be at the centre of one of the world’s premier sporting and retail areas and the two hotels will offer choice for both business and leisure guests.”
There are 237 hotels from the Holiday Inn brand family open in the UK with 22 more due to open in the next few years. The Staybridge Suites London Stratford City will be the third Staybridge Suites to open in the UK following the opening of Staybridge Suites Liverpool in 2008 and Staybridge Suites Newcastle in 2009 and the first in London.
