Swire Hotels to open new hotel in Hong Kong
16 April 2009 12:04 (Hong Kong)
Following the launch of The Opposite House in Beijing, Swire Hotels is set to unveil a second hotel, The Upper House, in Hong Kong in October 2009.
The hotel will be located within Pacific Place in Admiralty, Hong Kong Island’s premier integrated commercial, retail, and hospitality complex, and will feature 117 guestrooms, including 21 suites and two penthouses, all with scenic harbour or island views. The rooms will begin at 730ft² – the largest in Hong Kong – with bathrooms of over 300ft² featuring walk-in rain showers, dressing areas, and deep soaking baths, framed with panoramic windows.
The Upper House has been designed by renowned Hong Kong architect Andre Fu of AFSO whose contemporary Oriental design provides an understated feeling of residential calmness. The hotel will showcase specially commissioned sculptures and original artwork in both the rooms and the public spaces.
The Upper House’s restaurant, Café Gray Deluxe, a 21st century ‘grand café’ located on the 49th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour, marks celebrated chef Gray Kunz’s return to Hong Kong with a unique take on European classics and a collection of signature dishes. The restaurant’s main feature is a 14m long open kitchen and an equally long bar.
The name, ‘The Upper House’, is derived from the design philosophy of an upward journey from Queensway towards Pacific Place, elevating into a serene home above the bustling city.
