Hospitality 3 open a study in 'collegiate chic' at Yale
26 February 2009 16:49 BST (New Haven, CT)
The Study at Yale – a new hotel, planned as the first of a chain of ‘collegiate chic’ hotels in the Ivy League’s towns and campuses – has opened.
Located in the heart of Yale’s campus, the hotel has been developed by Hospitality 3, and designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects – a Toronto based practice where several Yale graduates are principals. Hospitality 3 was set up by Paul McGowan a former executive of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 2003.
Its design and branding reflects the academic surroundings with guestrooms featuring rich leather reading chairs and ottomans, and large desks with task lighting. Pride of place in the lobby of granite, walnut, bronze and leather is a large bookcase. An “artist’s studio” – one of seven suites – is equipped with an easel and art supplies. Even the hotel’s logo – depicting a pair of reading glasses – reflects the studious surroundings.
