The Wellesley moves nearer completion
16 December 2011 13:10:11 GMT
On Wednesday 14 December a Topping Out Ceremony took place in Kensington at the site of the new Wellesley Hotel overlooking Hyde Park – a property which is being billed as "London’s first 6-star luxury hotel."
It will feature 1920’s Art Deco themes, Europe’s largest cigar humidor and heated terrace and a whisky and cognac wall in the Crystal Bar. There will also be an intimate Jazz Bar in keeping with the sites heritage which previously hosted such talents as Amy Winehouse, Johnny Dankworth, Mica Paris and George Melly.
“The Wellesley will redefine luxury in the hotel sector. We’re delighted to be involved and are focused on the final construction phase now that the structure is completed.” says Kevin Quinn, BTP Director
BTP are leading the team as Project Managers and have their own Quantity Surveyors working with the main contractor Brookfield Multiplex and interior designer Fox Linton.
The 'Topping Out Ceremony’, one of the construction industry's oldest customs, marks the completion of the structural frame of the building. The project is the latest from Arab Investments Ltd, client Khalid Affara and Brookfield’s Phil George and George Assimakopoulos presided over the ceremony which was concluded by hoisting a small fir tree to symbolise fresh life and a new beginning.
Kevin Quinn, BTP’s principle on the project said ‘We’ve addressed some unique technical challenges due to the location of the property over the former Hyde Park Place Tube Station, and the proximity of some very high profile neighbours. Everyone has been cooperative and understanding, and this has enabled us to complete the structural phase of the project on budget and on schedule”.
Justin Bird from BTP added ‘The key has been to engage with the team and associated parties, working together to single-mindedly achieve our joint objectives. Everyone deserves great credit for the contribution they have made to get us to this stage…but now the real work starts!’
The Wellesley Hotel is the latest in a series of projects undertaken by BTP for Arab Investments Ltd and is due to open in November 2012.
