FIRST VIEW – THE NAKA ISLAND LUXURY COLLECTION RESORT & SPA

4 October 2011 16:10:43 GMT

Located on the private island of Koh Naka Yai off the shores of the eastern coast of Phuket, The Naka Island Luxury Collection Resort & Spa is set to open 1 November 2011.

Set among the island’s stunning white-fringed beaches with its shady coconut groves, and the emerald-green Andaman Sea, the new Naka Island is the only resort on the island. It will include 67 villas with private pools, with spectacular views over Phang Nga Bay.

Traditionally a refuge for fishermen after their time at sea, Koh Naka Yai’s name derives from the word ‘Naka Yai’ meaning big serpent, given its shape. Naka is the mythical sea-serpent in Buddhism and Hinduism. Tastefully decorated in classic Thai style, each of The Naka Island Resort & Spa’s villas will offer private plunge pools, spacious secluded outdoor areas and alfresco bathrooms with rainforest showers.

Each villa is designed in classic tropical island style, with architecture and décor reflecting the surrounding indigenous culture, offering ipod docking stations, a music library and indoor sound systems.

Celebrating local culture and natural elements, the Resort’s spa – Spa Naka, will feature eight treatment rooms, along with a hydrotherapy room with a Watsu pool, ice room and a Kanieep – a hot and cold pool especially designed for foot massages. Whilst relaxing in Spa Naka’s outdoors tropical garden, guests can also enjoy a selection of herbal teas picked from the Resort’s own organic herb garden.

Its signature treatments will include a range of spa experiences – Thai Temptation with full body steams, followed by Thai herbal steams and a full body Thai massage; the Ayurvedic Calming Touch with Abhyanga and Shirodhara massages, Marma therapy and Thai herb detoxing scrubs; Ageless with full body steams and deep clean body scrubs, followed by anti-cellulite and deep tissue massages.

With breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea and the surrounding lime stone cliffs, guests will be able to enjoy an authentic Thai cuisine at its My Grill restaurant – an alfresco grill house offering a great selection of seafood.  Whilst Tonsai is the perfect choice for all-day beachside dining. Evenings can also be enjoyed sampling a range of vintage wines from Z Bar’s extensive cellar.

Renowned for its enviable location within the Andaman Sea, guests at The Naka Island can partake in a variety of water sport activities, including scuba diving and snorkelling among the many colourful coral reefs, windsurfing, sea-kayaking, open-water rowing, as well as long-tail boat and bamboo rafting excursions to the nearby islands. Days can also be enjoyed exploring the nearby Phi Phi islands, Khao Phing Kan (James Bond Island) and Phang Nga Bay famed for its spectacular formations, as well as elephant trekking through the jungle and mountain biking along the island’s numerous trails.
